Unsealed batteries shall be located in a room (enclosure) with outside vents or in well ventilated rooms and they shall be designed to prevent the escape of fumes, gases, or electrolyte into other areas of the facility 29 CFR 1926.441(a)(1)
Ventilation shall be provided to ensure the diffusion of gases from the battery and prevent the accumulation of an explosive mixture 29 CFR 1926.441(a)2)
Racks and trays shall be treated so they are resistant to corrosive electrolyte 29 CFR 1926.441(a)(4).
PPE including Face shields, safety glasses, chemical resistant aprons and rubber gloves shall be provided for employees handling acids and batteries 29 CFR 1926.441(a)(5).
A quick drenching eyewash/body wash station shall be located within 25 feet of the battery handling area 29 CFR 1926.441(6)
